Excerpts from the Novel, Unashamed By Francine Rivers

I fell in love with Francine Rivers novels, ever since I came in contact with them. From The Redeeming Love to The Scarlet Thread to And the Shofar Blew, to Mark of the Lion Series, to Leota’s Garden, to The Lineage of Grace Series … down to The Bridge to Haven.

I’m a lover of good novels and well crafted stories, and Francine Rivers is definitely one of my best christian novel author. Two of my other favorite female authors are Karen Kingsbury and Ruth Ann Nordin.

I think my favorite Francine Rivers novel is the Mark of the Lion series, but I like all of her books and I think I’ve read all her christian novels apart from The Shoe Box and the Sons of Encouragement Series, so if you are thinking of getting me a gift soon😆😊, kindly add this book : THE SHOE BOX, to the list.😍😃

Recently, a closed group I belong to on Facebook suggested The Lineage of Grace series as the Book of the Month and even though I had read it before, I was happy to pick it up again to read (Francine books does that to you).

*Currently, I’ve finished reading two out of the five books in the series, and as I was reading the second one, Unashamed, I couldn’t help but note down some of my favorite scenes. And then, I thought of you my beautiful reader, and decided to share them with you 😃😊.

So, below are excerpts from the novel Unashamed. Enjoy!!!

Closing the door behind them, the woman threw off her shawl. “I’ve got to hide you!”
“What are you talking about, woman?”
Don’t pretend ignorance. You’re Israelite spies. If it wasn’t written all over you before, it is now.” She went for the ladder against the back wall. Ephraim looked at Salmon. “What do we do?” Salmon stared at her. “How did you know?”

I was young and impetuous once,” Caleb said more gently. “You must learn to be patient. God doesn’t need our help.”

Salmon held the bread of heaven reverently. All his life he had taken it for granted; now he realized how precious it was. As he ate of it, tears came, for he knew this bread had come from the very hand of God, a free gift keeping him alive. Could there ever be anything as sweet? Could anything else be as nourishing?

And the shofar blew, caling the people to gather. The time had come to move forward and receive the gift God had so graciously prepared for them.

Salmon moved forward with his brothers and cousins so they were shoulder to shoulder. Joshua raised his hands, his voice strong and carrying to the farthest members of the congregation. “Come and listen to what the Lord your God says. Today you wil know that the living God is among you. He wil surely drive out the Canaanites, Hittites, Hivites, Perizzites, Girgashites, Amorites, and Jebusites. Think of it! The Ark of the Covenant, which belongs to the Lord of the whole earth, wil lead you across the Jordan River! The priests will be carrying the Ark of the Lord, the Lord of all the earth. When their feet touch the water, the flow of water wil be cut off upstream, and the river will pile up there in one heap.”

The priests reached the bank of the Jordan. They didn’t hesitate but walked straight into the flooded Jordan. And as they did, there was a roaring sound such as Salmon had never heard in al his life. The hair stood on the back of his neck as he saw the water draw back, a hiss of steam bilowing up. Walking in faith, the priests carried the Ark of the Covenant of the Lord to the center of the riverbed and stopped there, planting their feet. The golden Ark glistened in the morning sunlight.

Her father brushed away Hagri’s attempts to aid him and stumbled wearily to the window. “Did you see it? Did you see what happened? The water roled back like a carpet, toward the town of Adam and the Salt Sea.” “I saw,” Rahab said. “The hand of God has come upon the land, and He will brush away His enemies like stones on a game table.”

Inside the walls of Jericho, the people waited, paralyzed with fear. Those who hadn’t been able to get inside the city before the gates were shut and the beams rammed into place had fled over the mountain road to find protection among the kingdoms in the hil country. Some would go as far as the Mediterranean. And everywhere they traveled, they spread the news: The God of Israel dried up the Jordan River so the Hebrews could cross over! The Israelites are in Canaan!

Why would God take note of an unworthy woman like me?” “Because the Lord knows His people wherever they are, even when they’re inside the wals of a pagan city. He knew you, Rahab, and He answered the prayer of your heart. God saved you from death, and God is now offering you a way to be grafted into His people.” She shook her head and stepped back from him. As much as the idea might appeal to her, this would not do at all. “I know God is my Savior. I also know He is God of al there is and thus master of my life.” “Then accept the blessing He offers you.” Salmon smiled and placed his hand against his heart. “A young husband.”

I definitely cannot exhaust all the interesting parts of this novel, better still, you can just get your own copy of the book, right? Or if you want an e-copy, I might just mail mine to you.

P.S: Depending on your reaction, I just might share excerpts from the other series as I read them. *winks*
